🧽 Construction and history of the sponge

Traditionally, potters made their own diddlers by:

Attaching a cellulose or synthetic sponge to a wooden dowel or stick.

Securing it with a rubber band, string, or waterproof adhesive.

Sometimes cutting or shaping the sponge to better suit their needs.

Modern versions are sometimes sold commercially and may include:

Flexible or angled handles for better reach.

Interchangeable sponges for different levels of abrasiveness or shapes.

Durable materials for long-term studio use.
