🧽 Construction and history of the sponge
Traditionally, potters made their own diddlers by:
- Attaching a cellulose or synthetic sponge to a wooden dowel or stick.
- Securing it with a rubber band, string, or waterproof adhesive.
- Sometimes cutting or shaping the sponge to better suit their needs.
Modern versions are sometimes sold commercially and may include:
- Flexible or angled handles for better reach.
- Interchangeable sponges for different levels of abrasiveness or shapes.
- Durable materials for long-term studio use.
